Synthetic Turf International Completes Playground Renovation
Broward County Parks and Recreation Division Updates C.B. Smith Park

Pembroke Pines, Florida

April 21, 2007, Jupiter, FL——Synthetic Turf International (STI), a global synthetic turf supplier and installer of premium synthetic putting greens and related synthetic surfaces, today announced the recent renovation of the C.B. Smith Park playground in Pembroke Pines, Florida.  The project is the first of many playground renovations STI is slated to perform for Fort Lauderdale-based Recreation Design and Construction, Inc., a design-build firm specializing in recreational and public facilities.  The projects will be completed on behalf of Broward County’s Parks and Recreation Division.

The renovation of the 1,950 square foot playground was completed utilizing STI’s distinctive SoftLawn® St. Augustine XP synthetic turf solution.  SoftLawn® is a natural-looking, lifelike synthetic turf used in lawn, play area and playground applications.  To meet current safety and accessibility standards, a two-inch layer of rubber padding was incorporated into the playground surface to provide a fall zone under and around the new playground equipment.  Used in tandem, these materials have been found to provide greater cushioning in the event of a fall, and meet the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) playground regulations.  Additionally, materials used in SoftLawn® are environmentally responsible in application and disposability.  Virtually maintenance-free, SoftLawn® requires no irrigation or chemical treatment, thereby reducing maintenance costs and pesticide-contact and ground water contamination concerns.

Commenting on the project Synthetic Turf International President William Campbell states, “The synthetic turf industry is experiencing a surge in the use of synthetic turf for playgrounds and recreation areas.  There isn’t a safer play surface available.  Synthetic turf’s safety features, durability and low-maintenance make it desirable for these settings.”

Located at 900 North Flamingo Road in Pembroke Pines, Florida, C.B. Smith Park is a diverse 320-acre park offering an extensive range of facilities including waterslides, swimming pools, basketball, volleyball, tennis and racquetball courts, batting cages, jogging paths, picnic areas, camping facilities, miniature golf and a driving range.
