Synthetic Turf International Completes Second Short-Game Green
Fort Drum Continues to Update Vital Community Centers

Fort Drum, New York

August 8, 2007, Jupiter, FL—Synthetic Turf International (STI), a global synthetic turf supplier and installer of premium synthetic putting greens and related synthetic surfaces, recently completed a putting green and chipping station installation at Fort Drum’s Crescent Woods Community Center located in Upstate New York.  The project was completed in conjunction with Bette & Cring Construction Group of Latham, New York.

Constructed of STI’s exclusive NP50® nylon putting surface, the 2,600 square foot short-game practice facility is STI’s second such project completed at Fort Drum in the past year.  Virtually maintenance-free, the tour-quality synthetic putting green provides the look, feel and playability of a natural grass green.  STI’s SoftLawn®® Zoysia turf was used to create an apron around the green, allowing troops to sharpen their chipping skills.  The short-game green was completed as part of a larger capital improvement project currently underway at Crescent Woods.

“We are pleased to be a part of this three-phase project.  Since the early 1900’s Fort Drum has served as an extremely important part of our military’s infrastructure.  Providing quality recreational amenities strengthens the quality of life for the military families based there,” stated STI President William Campbell.  “Our synthetic surfaces withstand the test of time,” he continued.  “These short-game practice greens will provide enjoyment for the troops stationed at Fort Drum for years to come.”

Fort Drum provides planning and support for the mobilization and training of almost 80,000 U.S. troops annually.  The installation has been used as a military training site since 1908, however, the Army's presence in Upstate New York can be traced back to the early 1800's.  Today, Fort Drum consists of 107,265 acres. Its mission includes command of active component units assigned to the installation.  It is also home to the Army’s 10th Light Infantry Division whose specialty involves fighting effectively in harsh conditions.  Like the rest of the corps, it is designed for rapid deployment anywhere in the world.  Fort Drum also provides administrative and logistical support to all units stationed at the base including active and reserve units.
