Higginson, who retired in 2006 after 14 years in professional baseball, wants to be the best golfer he can possibly be. And he knew that having a practice facility close at hand would aid in his quest. Higginson contracted STI to install a 2,300 square foot putting green at his Lakeland, Florida, residence. A typical putting green installation takes approximately two weeks to stage and complete, however, STI was able to fast track Higginson’s putting green. From contract to installation, the entire project was completed in four days.

Constructed of STI’s exclusive nylon NP 50 putting surface, the putting course was designed according to Higginson’s exacting specifications. At Higginson’s request, challenging undulations were incorporated into the green during the design process. STI’s SoftLawn®® Fescue and Paspalum turfs were utilized to simulate first and second cuts of rough around the green.

STI’s tour-quality synthetic putting green “holds” the ball, enabling consistent putts with a true roll from every position on the green. The synthetic putting surface requires little maintenance and provides the realistic look, feel and playability of a natural grass green.

Bobby Higginson is a former outfielder in Major League Baseball who played his entire career for the Detroit Tigers. He attended Temple University and was drafted by the Tigers in 1992. Higginson retired from Major League Baseball in 2006.
