Synthetic Turf International Updates BallenIsles Country Club
Driving Range and Target Greens get Synthetic Makeover

Synthetic Grass Alternative Reduces Maintenance Costs and Time

May, 2006, Jupiter, FL—Synthetic Turf International (STI), a global synthetic turf supplier and installer of premium synthetic putting greens and related synthetic surfaces, recently completed a driving range renovation and chipping station installation project at BallenIsles Country Club golf course in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida

The project consisted of installing a 1,800 square foot synthetic tee line and three synthetic surface chipping stations.  The tee line was updated with STI’s innovative E Z Tee system, a naturalistic synthetic turf designed specifically for driving range tee lines.  E Z Tee’s innovative composite affords the golfer the option of either hitting off a regulation tee or hitting directly off the synthetic surface.  This is a stark departure from traditional synthetic mats and tee lines which require the golfer to utilize a white plastic tube in lieu of a regulation golf tee.  In addition to E Z Tee’s realistic playability, BallenIsles’ members also benefit from the cost-effectiveness of the product.  The E Z Tee product permits continuous use, eliminating the need to relocate and reseed driving range areas, a major concern of the Club during peak season.

The synthetic surface chipping stations were created in conjunction with an update of the facility’s natural grass chipping areas.  Created with STI’s SoftLawn®TN product, the chipping stations are infilled to increase stability.  BallenIsles Director of Golf Course Management, Kevin Downing, felt it important to give members an option when practicing their short game.  His research showed the SoftLawn®TN product would provide a shock absorbing surface that would cushion players’ joints.

Constructed with brick paving stones, STI’s Zoysia SoftLawn®TN product was used in and around the walkway and crosswalks adjoining the tee line.  Downing likened the blend of turf to “an interior decorator changing texture.”  Downing stated, “Synthetic turf is more functional than natural grass because it’s not as puffy or slippery.  And aesthetically the landscaping variances are really solid.”
STI President William Campbell states, “BallenIsles Country Club is an icon in Palm Beach County golf.  At STI we maintain the same high standards for our products that BallenIsles’ members demand.”

Showcasing three eighteen-hole golf courses, BallenIsles Country Club was originally commissioned by John D. MacArthur to serve as the home of the Professional Golfers' Association of America (PGA).  Notable tournaments hosted by BallenIsles include the PGA Championship, the World Cup Championship and the PGA Seniors' Championship.
