High-Rise Condominium Converts Rooftop into Valuable Greenspace

SoftLawn® Proves to be Ideal Solution

April XX, 2008, Jupiter, FL - Synthetic Turf International ("STI"), a global synthetic turf supplier and installer of premium synthetic surfaces, recently announced completion of a unique rooftop lawn at Contessa at Bay Colony, a twenty-two story condominium complex located in Naples, Florida.

STI utilized their SoftLawn® Fescue turf to construct the lush rooftop oasis. STI’s SoftLawn® turf utilizes a soft polyethylene, UV-protected synthetic fiber which creates a lush, life-like synthetic solution, ideal for residential and commercial lawn applications. Virtually maintenance-free, STI’s SoftLawn® products require no chemical insecticides or fertilizers. Moreover, SoftLawn® is perfectly suited for drought-prone regions as it requires no watering or irrigation.

Before construction could begin, STI had a few engineering obstacles to overcome. The height of the project required the mobilization of an all-terrain forklift to transfer the materials to the high-rise’s rooftop. Additionally, most SoftLawn® installations typically require infill comprised of rubber and sand. However, STI’s engineering team had to find a creative alternative to allow for proper diversion of excess water. To address this need, STI created a drainage grid to facilitate runoff. A sprinkler system was also incorporated into the grid to provide irrigation for urns and planters containing ornamental foliage. Brick walkways were also constructed to create an actual garden and recreation area. Dave Duhigg, Manager at Contessa Condominiums states, “I am very satisfied with the results. The area looks great and I was very impressed with the installation."
