Hamilton Golf and Country Club, Host Site for This Week’s RBC Canadian Open, Grateful to be Green for This Week’s Tour Stop

This week, as you’re watching the RBC Canadian Open, you might take a minute to appreciate how green everything is.  Sure, it’s a golf course hosting a PGA Tour event, so it should be green.  But it almost wasn’t, and the membership at Hamilton Golf and Country Club are eternally grateful for Superintendent, Rhod Trainor.

Back in 2014 the course saw a heavy rain in January, followed by weeks of freezing temperatures.  The course was frozen for two months, killing the putting surfaces.  Trainor and his crew needed to have a plan for the next Winter.

The club purchased special greens blankets, used to cover the greens before the Winter weather arrived.  The blankets are inflated to “look like mini tennis domes,” which provides time for fresh air to enter and stale air to exit.

The greens are given time to breathe.

Add to that that the Canadian Open was moved up on the PGA Tour calendar from July to early June.   This meant that Trainor and his team had even less time to get the course back in shape after Winter.

Hamilton Chooses EZTee System for the Practice Range

Late this Spring, the team from STI Canada installed an EZTee Tee Line system at Hamilton Golf and Country Club.  The tee line will not be used during the Canadian Open by the tour players, but it has seen lots of action in the months leading up to the tournament.  And it’s likely to see lots more action when the tournament is over.

The EZTee product is designed to give natural grass on practice ranges time to heal.  And the practice range at Hamilton will need plenty of time to do that after 150 tour professionals are finished this weekend.

Does your club or facility have a need for an EZTee system?
