Dry Conditions in California Make STI Pet Turf and Landscape Products an Attractive Idea for a Drought Proof Option for Lawns
Now could be the best time to install a synthetic turf lawn for residents of California.
Near record drought conditions across the Pacific and Pacific Northwest are affecting everything from ski lodges to tomato farms, and with projected water shortages in California, natural lawns will suffer.
California Governor, Jerry Brown, declared a drought emergency on January 17, encouraging residents to “take shorter showers and turn off the water while brushing teeth.” Then, on January 31, California officials announced that they would not provide additional water services for over half of the state’s population, and more than a million acres of farmland.
The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California does not have the water reserves it had when it was able to transfer water to districts in Northern California in 1977, the worst drought year in the state’s 163-year history.
According to a recent report in the San Jose Mercury News, the State of California received less rainfall in 2013 than in any other year since California received statehood.
Lynn Ingram, a paleoclimatolist at UC Berkeley, is projecting that, based on tree ring data, “the 2013-14 rainfall season is shaping up to be the driest in 434 years.”
Rainfall projections like that led Gov. Brown to make the official drought declaration, going as far as to urge residents to cut their water consumption by 20 percent.
Water reservoirs in California are at lower points than in 1977.
Conditions are near-perfect for synthetic lawns and landscapes already.
Obviously, residents won’t be watering their lawns, making synthetic turf the best drought proof option to maintain a healthy green landscape, while allowing Californians to do their part to conserve water.
Synthetic Turf International manufactures the highest quality synthetic turf in the industry, using state-of-the-art technology and the latest research and innovative practices. All of this helps STI provide a durable landscape with a lush, fresh cut appearance that is aesthetically pleasing, realistic and relatively maintenance free.
