Hope Animal Rescues, a no-kill animal rescue in Godfrey, Illinois that has saved the lives of thousands of dogs, has won Synthetic Turf International’s Better Play & Recreation Contest. The non-profit organization will receive the grand prize of a synthetic turf installation worth up to $50,000, which will conserve resources, eliminate muddy paws and provide a more sanitary outdoor environment for the animals they serve.
Nearly 4,000 votes were cast online nationwide during the contest’s public voting period, with Hope Animal Rescues garnering over 40% of the total vote. Their new synthetic turf pet recreation area will be installed at the end of September, 2013.
“Our volunteers and adopters were over the moon excited about winning this contest,” explained Jackie Spiker, Co-Founder of Hope Animal Rescues. “Having the synthetic turf for our pets will help us reduce maintenance costs, as we were spending over $300.00 per month watering sod, and give the dogs a great play area in which to run and enjoy!”
Hope Animal Rescues (www.hoperescues.com) is committed to engaging and serving local communities of people and animals. The state-licensed, all-volunteer, no-kill animal rescue helps save dogs on their last day of life from animal control facilities. Their goals are to promote spay/neuter, stop the use of gas chambers to kill our homeless pets, and to educate people on how to treat all animals with respect and dignity. To date Hope has saved 1,920 dogs and re-homed 1,785 dogs through their adoption program.
“Synthetic Turf International’s Better Play contest has given the dogs at Hope Rescues the chance to play where the grass really is greener!” noted shelter volunteer Patty Barney. “Soon Hope’s limited resources will be ‘going to the dogs’ instead of time spent on costly lawn maintenance. Hope Rescues’ volunteer based organization is grateful to have the opportunity to provide a lush play yard to our animals in need, years of happiness and rehabilitation for these pups that are waiting for their forever homes.”
In addition to Hope Animal Rescues, the other nine contest finalists included Alma Pre-School- Castro Valley Unified School District, Castro Valley, CA; Button Hole, Providence, RI; The Children’s Course/The First Tee of Greater Portland, Gladstone, OR; City of Refuge, Atlanta, GA; Golf Supports Our Troops, Madison, NJ; Island Creek Park on Kerr Lake, Buggs Island, North Carolina; Northwest Louisiana Youth Golf & Education Foundation, Shreveport, LA; Peninsula YMCA/First Tee, Newport News, VA; and the Society for Handicapped Children & Adults in Modesto, CA.
